Kiel is the state capital of Schleswig-Holstein.

The state-wide private radio stations R.SH (Radio Schleswig-Holstein, Germany's first private radio station), Delta radio and Radio BOB! (on the frequencies of the former Radio NORA - Nord-Ostsee-Radio) are all based in Kiel in the Funkhaus Wittland or Radio Center Kiel.
There is no shortage of cultural entertainment here either. Theaters, music events, cinemas and museums.
From Kiel along the Schleswig-Holstein coast you will find numerous seaside resorts, romantic villages, quaint fishing harbors and picturesque bays. The cities towards Flensburg Eckernförde, Kappeln and of course Denmark are also worth a trip from Kiel and are easy to reach. The state capital offers everything from major sailing events to the opera, a lively and maritime city center and very good medical care. Interesting sailing tours and cruises to the Baltic and Scandinavia can be undertaken from Kiel.
